Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 August 2026
JK Cycles (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through jkcycles.org.za, why we collect it, and what rights you have. We process personal information in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

We are the “responsible party” for the information described below. You can reach us through any of the channels on our contact page.
Auction registration
To bid in an online auction you must register with your name, mobile number, email address and a password. We use these to create and secure your account, to identify you as a bidder, to contact you about auctions you take part in, and to arrange payment and collection if you win an item. Your password is stored only as an encrypted hash — never as readable text. We also record the bids you place, including the amount and time.
Other bidders never see your full name, phone number or email address. During a live auction, a leading bidder is shown only as a first name and surname initial (for example, “John D.”).
Selling a bike to us
If you use the Sell Your Bike form, we collect your name, mobile number, email address, details about the bicycle, and any photographs you upload. We use these solely to assess the bicycle and respond with an offer.
Contacting us
If you contact us by WhatsApp, phone or through our contact form, we keep that correspondence so we can deal with your query. Our cart checkout and sell enquiry both open WhatsApp to send us your message; those messages are handled by WhatsApp under Meta’s own privacy terms.
Your shopping cart
Cart contents are stored only in your own browser and are never sent to or stored on our servers.
Analytics and advertising
We use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to understand how visitors use our site and to measure our advertising. This places cookies and sends information about your visit — including your IP address and the pages you view — to Meta Platforms, which processes it outside South Africa, including in the United States. You can control this through your browser’s cookie settings or your Meta ad preferences.
Security and hosting
Our site is delivered through Cloudflare, which automatically logs technical data such as IP addresses to protect the site against attacks and abuse.
AI tools we use internally
We use AI-based tools internally to help run our business and this website — for example, to help manage our catalogue, draft communications, and maintain our systems. These tools do not make automated decisions about you, and using them does not change what information we collect or why: the basic personal information described in this policy (such as your name, phone number and email address) continues to be stored and used only as set out here.
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We do not collect payment card details on this website — auction payments are arranged with you directly after an auction closes.
How long we keep it
We keep auction account details and bid records for as long as your account is active, and afterwards only as long as needed for our records or where the law requires it. Sell enquiries are kept only as long as needed to assess the bicycle and conclude any resulting purchase.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, delete information we no longer have grounds to keep, or object to how we use it. To do any of these, contact us using the details above.
If you believe we have not handled your information properly, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.
